Background

Verse is a born artist. but little did she know that one day art would come to be her saving grace, and trusted tool for healing. Having overcome much trauma, she credits art for having “ a tremendous capacity to heal.”

Her faith and perseverance have led her to accomplish many things, from speaking alongside community leaders, executives and even politicians. The story she shares is one about survival, and her motto is “ a broken wing doesn’t mean you can’t fly.”

From teaching and facilitating art and poetry workshops in high school classrooms, domestic violence shelters one thing remains consistent: Verse believes that “courage is waking up to face another day when the previous was not so kind.”

Her passion is justified in how she speaks. Sharing insights from her lived experiences, you might find it easy to connect with her nurturing and compassionate spirit. As a leader, she embraces the idea that ‘service above self’ is at the core of her purpose.

Verse notes her most pivotal years of transition came with hard won lessons. A licensed massage therapist, launched her speaking career when invited to speak on a panel in 2009 on “the power of forgiveness” in which she talks about what it meant to forgive those who have inflicted pain. From there she went on to become a facilitator with Literature for All of Us inspired by her own journey of a Chicago youth using poetry as an outlet. In 2013, she launched her own nonprofit, “Heal Empower Motivate”, a program in which she led art and poetry workshops in domestic violence shelters. From there, Soul Revival Healing Arts was born.

Verse doesn’t call what she does “work”, Instead, she is living out her purpose and her truth and grateful to have inspired others along the way.
